Civil Service
The Kyle Police Department is a Texas Chapter 143 Civil Service Agency.
Guaranteed Annual Raises
All officers receive yearly step pay plan raises as outlined in the Civil Service Meet & Confer contract.
Academy Sponsorship & Cadet Pay
KPD will sponsor non-TCOLE certified cadets while in training at a local police academy. All cadets will be paid an annual salary of $53,414 while attending the police academy.
Career Advancement Opportunities
As our agency grows to accommodate our rapidly growing city, career advancement opportunities may arise. Officers are eligible for promotion after three years of service. Previous law enforcement agency service may apply.
Lateral Entry Program
KPD is currently offering a $10,000 sign-on bonus to qualified TCOLE Certified applicants.
Overtime Opportunities
Officers may be eligible for overtime opportunities providing law enforcement services at various city functions and on special operational assignments.
Off-Duty Opportunities
Non-probationary officers may be eligible to work off-duty assignments providing law enforcement services to third parties.
Relocation Assistance
Applicants living more than 60 miles away may receive up to $5,000 in relocation assistance.
Longevity Pay
After one full year of service, officers are eligible for $9 per month for each full year of continuous service, with a maximum of 25 years.
Free On-site Gym
The new Kyle Police Department has an on-site gym with 24-hour access that is equipped with cardio machines, free weights, squat racks, bench press, rowers, etc.
Shift Differential Pay
All night shift officers will receive an additional $75 per pay period.
Bi-Lingual Pay
Officers proficient in Spanish or sign language will receive $75.00 per pay period.
Stand-by Pay
Officers will receive 2 hours of pay per 24-hour period while on-call.
FTO Pay
Officers who are appointed to serve as Field Training Officers will receive $40 per day while training.
Certification Pay
Officers who hold the following TCOLE certifications are eligible to receive additional pay:
Intermediate Certification – $30.00 per pay period
Advanced Certification – $45.00 per pay period
Masters Certification – $60.00 per pay period
Education Pay
Officers who hold a Bachelor’s Degree will receive an additional $65 per pay period. Officers who hold a Master’s Degree will receive an additional $85 per pay period.
College Tuition Reimbursement
The city will reimburse the cost of tuition and books (up to the allotted fiscal amount) for all eligible officers taking job-related courses at an accredited college or university.
Extensive Field Training and Yearly In-Service Training
Each of our highly trained officers participate in an extensive field training program and yearly in-service training throughout their career with KPD.
Specialty Unit Pay
Officers actively assigned to specialty units will receive additional pay as follows:
– Special Weapons and Tactics – $50.00 per pay period
– Crisis Negotiations Team – $32.50 per pay period
– Crash Team – $32.50 per pay period
Sick and Vacation Pay Buy Back Program
The City of Kyle will buy back up to 160 hours of sick pay.
Holiday Pay
The City of Kyle acknowledges 13 paid holidays per year including:
New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Day, President’s Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, 4th of July, Labor Day, Indigenous People’s Day, Veterans’ Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Friday after, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, along with 2 floating holidays.
All officers scheduled to work a holiday will bank 8 hours of holiday pay.
Premium Holiday Pay
The city acknowledges 6 Premium Holidays per calendar year including:
Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, and Independence Day
All officers scheduled to work a Premium Holiday will be paid hourly at one and a half-hour rate for any hours worked.
Vacation Pay
All officers will accrue 120 hours of paid vacation per year.
Sick Pay
All officers will accrue 120 hours of sick leave per year.
FMLA
Officers who have worked at KPD for 12 months and worked 1,250 hours are eligible for up to 12 weeks of FMLA to care for themselves, their spouse, child, or parent.
Life Insurance
The city provides a basic life insurance policy in the amount of 3X employees’ annual salary at no cost. Additional coverage is available for purchase.
Health Insurance
Officers and their family members are eligible for a competitive medical, dental, and vision benefits package with over a $750 monthly contribution made by the city and low monthly premiums paid out of pocket. HSA and FSA plans are also available.
Retirement
Officers will receive a 2:1 match from the city in a TMRS retirement account. There is a 5-year vesting and eligibility requirement.
Veteran Support
KPD provides assistance for all eligible military veterans to receive on-the-job training benefits throughout their field training program.
